In Kharkiv, at the House of Artists’ Studios, an exhibition titled “Time of Memory” opened on the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation.
It is dedicated to the artists who once worked in these studios and, sadly, are no longer with us.
The exhibition features works by 13 artists, six of whom have passed away during the current full-scale war.A total of 27 pieces are on display, including paintings by World War II veteran Yosyp Karas, theater artist Hryhorii Batii, painter Vasyl Hanotskyi, Ihor Morhunov, and sculptures by Ihor Yastrebo—creator of the Soldier-Liberator monument on 23 Serpnia Street.
Among those who have recently left their studios are painter and graphic artist Stanislav Hiedzevych, and Kharkiv artist Viktoria Trunova, known for her bright and deeply warm paintings—even when addressing anxious, tragic themes. She painted because she simply couldn’t not paint. Even when Kharkiv was under enemy airstrikes, she refused to leave her home. She sketched what she saw from the window of her apartment in the Oleksiivka district.
